‘Something is missing’ for the international comic competition ‘Animate Europe 2019’ by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in Brussels made it among the top 5 finalists and is traveling now around the world, inspiring people for a strong and vivid Europe.
The story is based on the idea of an orchestra, which is not complete if one member is missing. Like this the European Union would not be complete. At the beginning of the story there is one girl singing her happy song. With time she meets other children, who join her on her adventure. They make music together and walk through stunning imaginary landscapes, busy cities, beautiful cliffs. It’s a metaphoric way to describe the many faces of European nature and different cultures. The change of climate and geographical region is marked by the change of color. There are no hard changes in color as there are no hard borders in the European Union.
At the end of the story there are many children in different colors, playing different instruments. They make a circle and feel complete and happy.

...fell to earth, and was broken into millions of pieces. But now the looking glass caused more unhappiness than ever, for some of the fragments were not as large as a grain of sand, and they flew about the world into every country. When one of these tiny atoms flew into a person’s eye, it stuck there unknown to him, and from that moment he saw everything through a distorted medium or could see only the worst side of what he looked at, for even the smallest fragment retained the same power which had belonged to the whole mirror.

She is the largest of them all, and never remains on the earth, but flies up to the dark clouds. Often at midnight she flies through the streets of the town and looks in at the windows; than the ice freezes, which look like flowers and castles.” “Yes, I have seen them,” said both the children, and they knew it must be true.
